COVID-19 Safety: Know Before You Go

WE BELIEVE ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

MEET LIZ

Liz is the founder of a successful executive search firm and the mother of three. After Liz survived an ischemic stroke and craniectomy, she was left with weakness, loss of vision and cognitive challenges.

Before she was injured, she was working full-time, involved with her kids, practicing yoga twice daily and volunteering in the community. Once her physical and cognitive symptoms left her unable to continue in those roles, Liz struggled to rebuild her new life.
“Prior to PRA I was simply existing in life and in the world. I felt like I was slowly drowning in a cold dark sea, I felt lost and hopeless about my injury and my recovery.”
LIZ'S TREATMENT PLAN
Liz’s treatment plan was about getting Liz prepared to go back to work and continue with yoga and community interaction.

She had Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapy focusing on gait training and balance, concentration, memory, processing, compensatory strategies, upper extremity range of motion and strengthening, community outings, groups, and (of course) lots of yoga.

____

“My treatment plan included every aspect of my injury, not just pieces.”
LIZ'S LIFE AFTER PRA
Liz is back to work at her job, practicing yoga again and taking an active role in her kids lives.

“I am no longer just existing, I’m living again and thriving in my life. I am back to work, back to practicing yoga, I am spending time with friends, volunteering and being an active mother in my kids’ lives. I’m no longer drowning. PRA helped me back to land and I’m breathing air hopeful
about my future”

MEET JOE

Joe is a furniture craftsman who was involved in a serious car accident while on the job that left him with a brain injury.

Before PRA, he spent six months being told by doctors that he needed to rest even while his symptoms were slowly getting worse. He was suffering from balance issues, headaches, double vision and weakness.
“Being left in the dark is not very conducive to healing and even though I am a very positive person I was beginning to worry that I was never going to return to normal...that life had changed forever for me.”
JOE'S TREATMENT PLAN
When Joe’s doctor recommended PRA, he was willing to try anything. His PRA case manager recommended eye therapy, organization and planning sessions, brain exercises, balance training, regular physical therapy, nutrition training, and group sessions with fellow patients.
_____

“It turned out that sharing with people who shared the same issues as I did was one of the best things that happened during my time at PRA."

"When you are so near your own physical and mental problems it’s hard for you to see that you are making any progress at all, but the community there
helped me see my progress more clearly”
JOE'S LIFE AFTER PRA
Joe responded well to the treatment and training. His limitations in balance and stamina were overcome and his mental clarity and communication skills returned. He is back to work full-time and reports that he is stronger and in better shape than he was before the accident.
“The eight weeks I spent in therapy at PRA is some of the best spent time of my life. The lessons I learned have changed my life for the better and all the wonderful people I met will be in my heart forever.”

MEET RANDY

Randy joined PRA after struggling for years with his Complex Regional Pain Syndrome which left him with shooting pains from his thumb up his arm to his shoulder. He was ready for change and to not settle living every day with pain.

His medicaid insurance meant that he qualified for our program at PRA at no cost and after he heard about it from a friend, he asked his doctor for a referral.
“Before PRA my life was swiftly going down the tubes. I was suicidal for quite some time.”
RANDY'S TREATMENT PLAN
Randy’s treatment plan combined physical treatment with mental support and encouragement. Randy took part in acupuncture, yoga, pain management, art classes, and group discussions.
_____

“Counseling was incredibly insightful as was discussing and sharing of coping skills and tools, and a lot of kindness and nurturing from all the staff.”
RANDY'S LIFE AFTER PRA
Randy has learned how to manage his pain and conquer it so he could start truly living and enjoying his life. He has gained the skills and tools to keep his symptoms under control. Randy recently started his own business collecting and selling coins that involves him traveling to trade shows around the country.

“I stumbled into PRA and danced my way out!”
